Under the direction of Brady Allred, the University of Utah Singers have blossomed into a world-class ensemble. One expects nothing less from these talented singers than flawless performances, and that is exactly what one finds here on "Carol of Joy." The album's 23 tracks range from wonderful arrangements of standards such as "Here We Come A-Caroling," "Sing We Now of Christmas" and a delightful version of "Jingle Bells," to newer pieces by John Rutter and Stephen Paulus. But it's a haunting reworking of "Lo, How a Rose E'er Blooming" by Jan Sandstrom that makes this album magical. This is the group's third Christmas album and one of its best. It makes a great addition to anyone's holiday collection. — Edward Reichel, Deseret Morning News, Dec. 2008
